John Vernon "Jack" Allen 1922 – 2007
Allen, John Vernon "Jack", 84, died Friday, January 12, 2007. Born August 14, 1922 in Oklahoma City to Mary E. (McAuliff) and Arthur L. Allen. On April 27, 1946, he married Joan Hill in Tulsa at Christ the King Church.
Jack served his country during WWII with the US Army. He was a distributor for Falstaff Brewery from 1955-1969. In 1969, he purchased Smoke House Pit BBQ in Muskogee and operated until 1973.
After selling The Smoke House, he went to work as a Bailiff for various Judges in the District Court, retiring in 1987. Jack was a member of the Sertoma Club, Elks Club, Muskogee and Meadowbrook Country Clubs and was affiliated with "Keeping Muskogee Beautiful" and was an active member of Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart and St. Joseph Catholic Church's. He was preceded in death by Jim Allen, Art Allen, J.D. Allen, Ted Allen, and Dan Allen. Survivors include: wife, Joan; children, Susan M. Gaylor and husband Randy, Nick Allen and wife Barbara, John V. Allen, Jr., David L. Allen and wife Linda, and Steve M. Allen and wife Jennifer; brother, Duke Allen and wife Ann; sister, Frances Pankey; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Family requests contributions be made in Jack's memory to Neighbor for Neighbor or Catholic Charities. Mass of Christian Burial 1:30pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2007, St. Benedict Catholic Church.
