Mavis Erlene Johnson 1915-2007

Funeral services for Mavis Erlene Johnson, 91, of Porter will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Porter Church of Christ with Mr. Roy Essary and Mr. Steve Schinnerer officiating.
She was born February 3, 1915 in Snyder, Oklahoma to Earl and Hattie (Nunn) Tarpley. She was valedictorian of the 1932 Porter High School graduating class and attended Draughon’s Business School in Muskogee where she met Will Ernest Johnson. They were married November 27, 1938 and were together over 60 years before his death in 1999. She worked alongside her husband in their grocery store in Clarksville, Oklahoma for over 25 years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Tuesday Ladies’ Bible Class and playing with her great-grandchildren. All those who knew her found her to be a kind and compassionate person and a friend to all. She was a long time member or the Porter Church of Christ and will be greatly missed by her church family.
Survivors include one son, Charles Johnson and wife, Glenda of Tulsa; one daughter, Nana Essary and husband, Roy of Porter; one brother, John Tarpley and wife, Helen of Fort Gibson; 4 grandchildren, Mike Essary of Kansas City, MO, Marcy Martin and Aaron Johnson of Tulsa and Mandy Stansberry of Edmond; 5 great-grandchildren, Addi, Lily and Sophia Martin and Elly and Ike Johnson all of Tulsa.
Pallbearers will be Mike Essary, Aaron Johnson, Lee Martin, Matt Stansberry, Larry Essary and Jim Hogan. Funeral arrangements and interment in Greenwood Cemetery, in Porter will be directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
