James “J.R.” Jacobs 1934-2007
James “J.R.” Jacobs entered eternal life on Friday, January 19, 2007. He entered this life on Sunday, August 26, 1934 in Council Hill, Oklahoma to Edward and Roxie Potts Jacobs. J.R. grew up in Council Hill where he received his education, graduating from Council Hill High School in 1951. He attended college at Conners State Agricultural College graduating in 1953 with an Associates Degree in Arts, Northeastern State College graduating in 1955 with his Bachelor Degree of Arts in Education, and the University of Wichita where he graduated in 1962 with a Masters of Education. He married Erma Jean Collings in September of 1953. After college they moved to Derby, Kansas where he taught Social Studies, Government and served as Assistant Principal at Derby Jr. High School. In 1978 they returned to Council Hill where he raised cattle and taught History at Morris High School in Morris, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife Erma Jean Jacobs on Sunday, November 12, 2000. J.R. retired with thirty-nine years in education during which he was awarded the Teacher of the Year for Oklahoma History and Excellence in Teaching Oklahoma History. In February 2003 he married Edna Dillard in Tulsa, Ok. He attended the Checotah Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church of Tulsa. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Roxie Potts Jacobs; Brother, Raymond Jacobs; Sister, Inez Berry.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, of the home; Daughters, Jaye Mason and her husband, Doug of McAlester, Ok. Dee Blaskel and her husband Bob of Bartlesville, Ok. Grandchildren, Darrin Srader and his wife Debra, Tera Pate and her husband John, Tiffany, Zachary and Ethan Blasdel. Great-granddaughters, Emily and Payton Srader; Sisters-in-law, Jean Jacobs, of Florida, Jewel Vaughn of Tahlequah, Ok.; Brothers-in-law, Darrell Collins and his wife Lorna, Wayne Dillard and his wife Hazel all of Tulsa; Step-Daughters, Joyce Baskin and her husband Garry of Broken Arrow, Ok. Lhonda Fedde and her husband Steve of Sallisaw, Ok.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In honoring the life of J.R., in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 23, 2007, Checotah United Methodist Church with Reverend Rick Trobaugh, officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in the Council Hill Cemetery. The family of J.R.
