Dan Childers 1921-2007
Dan Childers, 85 year old Checotah resident, passed from this life on Friday, January 19, 2007 in Checotah Manor. He was born on May 30, 1921 in Richardsville, OK the son of Sauce and Dora Childers. On July 15, 1948 in Van Buren, AR, Dan married his sweetheart Keitha Sneed. He graduated from Checotah High School, and attended Connors State College where he played football. He served twenty years in the United States Army, and worked another twenty years for the Checotah Post Office. He loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed going to livestock shows, going to basketball and football games, and attending rodeos. Dan was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Dan in death were his parents, sisters Melvina Braugh and Rachel Kincy; brothers Buddy and Blue Childers; and daughter Robbin Childers Emerson. Survivors include his wife of over fifty-eight years, Keitha of the home; mother-in-law Opal Sneed of Checotah; daughter Danna Minnick and husband Mike and their children Danny Bledsoe, Taloha Hayes, Brad Minnick and Lora Neal; son Jay Emerson and wife Linda and their children Josh Emerson and wife Kim, Jayme Bennett and husband Mike, Jeremy Emerson, Shannon Mitchell and Jason Mitchell; great grandchildren Jake Newell, Dustin Newell and Ricky Newell; sisters Sarah McClane, Liz Jacobs, Bobbi Thames and Emma Stanley; brother Newman Childers; and a host of other family and friends; and many who called him “Pappy”.
There will be a private family service.
The family request in lieu of flowers that all donations be made to the Robbin Emerson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Checotah High School.
