May Gilley 1919-2007
May Gilley, 87, Council Hill, OK passed away on January 20, 2007 at her home. Funeral Services will be held at the Abundant Life Church in Council Hill on Friday January 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Chaplain Kevin Fitzgerald of Mayes Hospice will be officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park in Muskogee, OK. Pallbearers are Jarrett Duncan, Jason Duncan, Brian Sawvel, James Mackey, Josh Mackey, and Nathan Mackey. Arrangements were under the love and care of Gregg Funeral Home, Inc. in Eufaula, OK.
May was born to Joe and Helen (Kirkland) Howard on February 22,1919 at Dora, MO. She attended school through the 8th grade. She later was united in marriage to Charlie Gilley on July 19, 1936 at Council Hill, OK. After moving to California, she worked 5 or 6 years for Benecia Arsenile assembling guns during the war. She later worked on the assembly line in Nevada. They moved back to Oklahoma in September of 1960 to farm and raise cattle. Upon retirement in 1991, her favorite hobby was raising cattle.
May is survived by daughter, Charlia Garmon of Hugoton, KS, brothers, Joe and Charles Howard, sisters, Loraine McVey and Irene Fraizer, sister-in-laws, Lois and Juanita Gilley. Special friends, Dee Smith, Everett & Alta Staton and Rhoda Marshal all of Council Hill, OK.
May was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Gilley, son, Johnny Gilley, sister, Hazel McCoy, brother, Jim Howard, mother, Helen Howard, father Joe Howard, son-in-law, Lewis Garmon, grandsons, Randy and Kelly Garmon.
