Published February 23, 2007 02:37 pm - Emerson, Susie Susie Emerson 1915-2007 Susie Emerson, 91, of Checotah, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 in Muskogee, OK. She was born on April 14, 1915 in Leslie, AR the daughter of Allen Lannie and Lula (Maynard) Griffin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Checotah, which she loved very much and enjoyed her Sunday School Class. Susie liked helping her family and neighbors, and was dearly loved by many. She was a homemaker, and really enjoyed making quilts for family and friends. She also loved her dogs. She was a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and will be greatly missed. Preceding Susie in death were her parents; sisters Jack Pittman and Fern Lee Anderson; husband Merl Emerson; daughter Jeanetta Lay and daughter-in-law Martha Emerson. Survivors include two sons Merl Ed Emerson and wife Edna of Roebuck, SC and Rick Emerson of Checotah; three daughters Naomi and husband Mike Taylor of Lexington, SC, Margie and husband Windsor Llewellyn of Checotah, and Shari and husband Bill Gould of Pensacola, FL; one sister Inez Roundtree of Bell Gardens, CA; 12 grandchildren Lowell Lay, Darrin Lay, Kevin Lay, Timi Bahadory, Lee Taylor, Lance Emerson, Kim Brooks, Melissa Goodsell, Amber Llewellyn, Sy Johnston, Kaylia Johnston and Spencer Johnston; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m., Saturday, January 27, 2007 in the Hampton Memorial Chapel with Don Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Lee Taylor, Jesse Lay, Josh Lay, Shannon Goodsell, Mike Williams and Jacob Hilton serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be C. R. Harris, Norris Garrison, Dewayne Matthews, Jerry Longcrier and Raymond Carey. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Mortuary, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, OK 74426, 918-473-6821.
