Statement from Muskogee Public Schools

— Given the complexities of an athletic director's position within a 6A school district, MPS will be moving to a full time Athletic Director.  Mr. Bobby Jefferson will remain as the Athletic Director for MPS in a fulltime capacity.

Our rationale for the change is that the district athletic director's duties are numerous. Primary responsibilities include making sure all athletes are academically and otherwise eligible; coordinates sports schedules and facilities use; dealing with conflicts between coaches, athletes and parents; game management; helps hire, train,  and manage coaches; evaluates head coaches, works with players and parents; and reports to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association to ensure the school's athletics program meets regulations.

The athletic director, puts in a lot of hours and have to be very committed. It is a full-time job.
