Framed fire axes and commemorative helmets were presented recently to 24 firefighters who retired in 2011 with a combined 805 years of service and eight state legislators who supported the firefighters’ causes during their time in office. Among the firefighters recognized for their service was former Chief Danny Tracy, who served two years overseeing the Muskogee Fire Department and 33 years as firefighter and captain. Former assistant chiefs recognized during the catered event were Nick Clark, Wayne Shiew and Dean Busch, each with 36 years of service; Arvie Capps, 35 years; and David Young and David Sinyard, with 33 years each. Other retirees who earned recognition, identified in the order of most years served included House Capt. Robert Conley, 35 years; House Capt. Roger Carter, 34 years; master mechanic Steve Hill, 33 years; House Capt. Art Smith, 33 years; assistant mechanic Connie Amerson, 33 years; House Capt. Rick Holcomb, 33 years; House Capt. Dewayne Blevins; 33 years, Assistant Fire Marshal James Ledbetter, 33 years; and Fire Marshal Toby Webb, 33 years. Also recognized were Capts. Mark Doughty, 32 years; Clifton LaCrone, 31 years; William Sturgeon, 30 years; Phillip Harkreader, 28 years; Ronald Nichols, 28 years; Michael Capps, 28 years; Don Gullett, 27 years; and Gary Stancle, 27 years.
