The Cherokee Nation is seeking high school seniors to apply for the tribe’s 2012 Trail of Tears Awards for Excellence.
The award recognizes students who have displayed outstanding merit in at least one of the following 10 areas: Cherokee language, academics, community involvement, cultural activities, school involvement, music, drama, art, athletics, science, technology, engineering and mathematics readiness.
Applicants must be a graduating senior with a 3.75 GPA in the top 10 percent of their class. Students must reside within the tribe’s jurisdiction and be a Cherokee Nation citizen. A selection group of Cherokee Nation staff members will present iPads to 20 students, two in each category, during an awards program at the student’s school.
Applications are due by March 20 and can be filled out online at http://cherokeenation.academicworks.com/. Paper applications will not be accepted.
