Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, a state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, is taking part again in the nation’s largest annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program, according to a media release.
They are encouraging local individuals and volunteer groups to participate in the Great American Cleanup.
Participating groups include scouting troops, civic organizations, chamber beautification committees, schools, families, businesses, adopt-a-highway groups, sports teams, municipalities and county governments.
Organizations and individuals help by gathering together a group of volunteers and cleaning up litter along roadsides, in parks, streams, forests, school yards and neighborhoods.
Additional event ideas include flower and tree plantings, recycling drives, educational workshops, graffiti removal and freshening up buildings by giving them a fresh coat of paint.
Through its affiliation with Keep America Beautiful, GAC statewide sponsor Devon Energy, the national GAC sponsors and other sponsors and partners, KOB is able to offer registered groups in the GAC free supplies and support materials including posters, banners, trash bags, media kits, public relations assistance, creative ideas for projects, guidelines for volunteers, etc.
In addition to these supplies, KOB offers a number of grants and cash awards to registered groups which are made possible by funding from Devon Energy and OGE Energy Corp.
The deadline to register and receive free trash bags, water and other supplies is Feb. 22.
