NASCAR night returns to Outlaw

— It may have been a good thing the earlier scheduled night for the NASCAR drivers Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader to race at Outlaw Motor Speedway was postponed because of rain.
The way Outlaw co-owner Danny Womack sees it, the event, set for Monday night starting at 8 p.m., is bigger now than when it was originally on the calendar.
“There’s a whole lot of people who didn’t know about it before,” he said. “The ones who knew about it before are excited, so it should be a great show. I’ve gotten calls from drivers in Kansas, Missouri and other places who want to race against them.
Wallace and Schrader, who race at dirt tracks across the country, will compete against Outlaw’s Modified Division drivers.
Schrader, a veteran of NASCAR since 1984 and 184 top 10 finishes since that time, said he races on 66 dirt tracks during the course of a year. He’s co-promoter and owner of a track in Missouri, the I-55 Raceway in Pevely.
Wallace, whose older brother won the Winston Cup in 1989, has 27 career top 10 finishes and 183 total in NASCAR’s top circuit and nine Nationwide Series wins. He’s 18th in that series this year.
Both Wallace and Schrader also own the Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill.
The Outlaw Motor Speedway is located south of Muskogee on U.S. 69.
Womack, co-owner of Outlaw with Lynn Skinner, isn’t worried about the weather this time either. The show was originally scheduled for June 9, but a rainfall of almost five inches forced the postponement and rescheduling.
“It’s going to be perfect,” Womack said.
