OKTAHA — Even the hottest driver at Outlaw Motor Speedway had some doubts Friday night.
Bixby’s Greg Skaggs spun out twice in his Outlaw Modified heat.
“I was thinking that maybe I should’ve gone to the movies instead,” he said. “It didn’t look seem like it was going to be my night.”
Skaggs collected himself in the feature, taking the lead on lap 15 of the 20-lap race and held off Muskogee’s Tate Cole to win for the fourth straight week and seventh time in the last eight features in the division formerly known as Super Modified.
He’s won 11 times this season.
“It took a long time to pass him,” Skaggs said. “I was able to do well in the curves to get enough ahead of him. It’s been quite a year.”
Cole could only shrug his shoulders after the race.
“I tried,” he said. “His experience makes him so good. He’s been racing a long time and he’s got a good car.”

Boynton’s James Gillean probably hopes to start another streak.
He won his fifth race of the season and the first since July 4 when he took the lead in lap six of 15 and raced to the checkered flag in a car where the brakes failed during the race.
“It was scary,” he said. “I just floated around the curves.”
Tahlequah’s Jason Ward, who has four feature wins, was second and Muskogee’s Jon Richardson was third.

Spiro’s Brookin Stephens took the checkered flag and won his fifth feature of the season, finishing out front of the 12 cars that managed to finish the race from the original field of 17.
Stephens, who last won on July 4, took the lead for good on lap 16.
Muskogee’s Kerney Weaver was second and Hulbert’s Randy Turney was third.
Fort Gibson’s Lynn Combs had the early lead, but he and Tahlequah’s Kyle Stevens spun out in the second lap of the 20-lap feature. Turney took the lead on the restart until Weaver went to the front on lap five.
Modified
Caution flags —10 of them — ruled the feature in the division once known as Economy Modified.
After the caution-fest ended, J.D. Jackson of Chouteau took the lead on lap 18, passing up William Gould of Fort Smith, Ark. Gould had a flat on his right rear tire, causing him to lose the advantage after leading for 11 laps. He eventually finished sixth.
It was Jackson’s second win this season as eight cars finished in the original field of 19.
Rowdy Bonewell of Rudy was second and Shannon Reheard of Muskogee was third.
Sprints
Tulsa’s Mike Goodman won his second straight Oil Capital Racing Series sprint race of the season and third overall after holding off Jamie Passmore of Rose, Okla. The two exchanged the lead through the first four laps.
The race was highlighted by a caution flag for nine of the 25 laps. Sapulpa’s Danny Smith finished third.
