Hulbert's Potts picks up first win

By Kenton Brooks
Phoenix Sports Writer

OKTAHA — Hulbert’s Bobby Jack Potts came to have some fun and left Outlaw Motor Speedway a winner for the first time this season in the Pure Stock feature.

“I wanted to play with the points leaders,” he said with a smile while attaching his car to the trailer. “I had a good time. That’s a 1968 GTO. It’s a veteran car.”

But the car didn’t show its age.

Chouteau’s Brandie Levasseur led for seven laps before dropping out of the race on the third turn of the eighth lap. Potts, who is not among the points leaders, went out in front and zipped to the checkered flag.

“She broke down right in front of me,” Potts said. “I hated that. She’s a friend.”

Boynton’s James Gillean, who won last week, was second and Tahlequah’s Jason Ward was third as 11 cars finished from the original field of 18.

Outlaw Modified

Even Bixby’s Greg Skaggs can’t win them all.

Skaggs, the hottest driver at the Outlaw Motor Speedway for the last few weeks, was on his way to fourth straight win when his car broke down on the last lap of the 20-lap feature in the division once known as Super Modified.

Skaggs, who has 11 wins this season, had to come off the track.

Tulsa’s Chad Davis took over and circled the track the one time to win the race. His win was doubly nice, as he also picked up the $300 bounty awarded to anyone who could beat Skaggs in the feature.

Muskogee’s Tate Cole was the runner-up for the third straight.
