EUFAULA — A Eufaula teenager was killed Thursday as a result of a one-car collision that authorities say was caused by a blown-out tire.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Benjamin Rickman, 18, was driving south on U.S. 69 when the right rear tire of the 1991 Ford Explorer he was driving ruptured. Rickman lost control of the sport utility vehicle, which rolled twice before it came to rest on the west side of the highway.
Rickman was ejected from the SUV and sustained multiple injuries. He was transported to Community Hospital Lakeview, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The wreck, which was reported at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, occurred about seven-tenths of a mile north of town. Seat belts were not in use. The vehicle was not equipped with an air bag.
