Tahlequah man arrested in connection with death of landlord

A Cherokee County man was arrested Thursday on a first-degree murder complaint in the slaying of his landlord, Robert Audd.

Audd, 60, was found dead in a wooded area behind his home Tuesday, said Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault.Audd's body was covered with trees and brush.

Audd was last seen May 10 by friends and relatives. The man suspected in Audd’s killing, William Christopher Lewis, 35, told Chennault and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents he and Audd “had argued over rent that was due,” Chennault said.

An investigation into rent records led officials to Lewis as the best suspect, Chennault said.

“We interviewed him this morning and he gave it up,” Chennault said.
