Creek Nation to offer training in business development

OKMULGEE — A business development workshop on the importance of networking to grow your business audience is scheduled, a media release states.

The Mvskoke Loan Fund, a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), will host the workshop, which takes place at 5:30 p.m. June 20, at the old BIA Office, 2001 Bear Lane in Okmulgee. The building is directly in front of the Creek Nation Tribal Complex.

The Mvskoke Loan Fund was created to help Native American entrepreneurs start or further develop their business by providing access to capital. Although the program gives preference to Muscogee (Creek) citizens, any Native American living within the Creek Nation jurisdiction may apply for a loan. The loan fund also offers post loan development services, including assisting recipients in developing bookkeeping and inventory systems; something most lenders do not provide.

Lahoma Simmons, director of the Mvskoke Loan Fund, said all aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners are encouraged to attend the training.

“Relationships are the catalyst for success,” Simmons said. “People do business with those they like and trust. Therefore, learning how to network effectively is critical to business planning and growth.”

The event is free to attend and open to the public. All class materials and refreshments will be provided to participants at no cost. Pre-registration is required.
