Jack and Mary Jane Doerner are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with a private family dinner. Jack Doerner married the former Mary Jane Flaherty on October 24th, 1953, at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Jack Graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in Chemistry from Purdue University in 1950.
The Doerners moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, in 1964. Jack is a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and earned a Bronze Star for Valor. Jack was director of Quality Control of Griffin’s Grocery Company until his retirement in 1990.
Mary Jane got her Nursing degree from Saint Vincent’s College. She worked as a registered nurse at Muskogee General Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in in Muskogee as a Head Nurse.
She was awarded the “Hearts and Hands” award by her colleagues for her compassionate care and retired after 22 years of service in 1986. Mary Jane also worked as a Hospice Nurse after her retirement from the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mary Jane and Jack are the parents of eight children: Tom and Laurie Doerner of Broken Arrow; Jim and Kathy Hall of Muskogee; Billy and Kathleen Doerner, now residing in Chang Mai, Thailand; the late Martin Doerner, formerly of San Mateo, California; Michael and Rieko Doerner of Shizuoka City, Japan; James and Suzanne Doerner of Greeley, Colorado; and Brian Doerner and Timothy Doerner of Muskogee. The Doerners have 10 grandchildren: James Hall; Benjamin and Caitlyn Doerner; Sam Doerner; Sarah and Rosemary Doerner; Shina and Tabatha Doerner; and Mollie, Emily and Grace Doerner.
Jack and Mary Jane wish to express their thanks to family and friends on this occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. Jack and Mary Jane have credited their strong faith in God as they raised their eight children. A mass in their honor will be offered at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
