Watch for drug use signs

May 10, 2008 05:29 pm

A dangerous practice has become prevalent among teens, so parents be observant.
In the last few years, more and more teens have started huffing — inhaling common household products to get a high.
Teens do it for many of the same reasons that they take drugs, but huffing is inexpensive and does not show up on a drug test.
But the practice is harmful because huffing some products, such as paint and aerosols, have severe health consequences.

Recently, the Phoenix published a story citing statistics that one in five children has abused inhalants. That’s a frequency that is frightening.
Be observant. Know the warning signs that your child might be involved in drugs, which usually begins with a poor attitude, less interest in family activities and spending a lot of time in his or her room alone.
And don’t be lax in seeking help from a professional.
