Muskogee Recycling Center began taking recyclable plastic several months ago after receiving grant money to purchase baling machines. The collection of plastic isn’t paying for itself in direct return from the plastic sold to recyclers, but all of Muskogee receives other benefits — longer life for the landfill and the satisfaction of knowing we are saving valuable resources for the future. It’s time that we realize that resources have limits. We must manage them so that our children can experience the same quality of life that we have enjoyed. And of course, recycling takes management, time and effort, but it’s a discipline that we must teach ourselves more and more. Recycling center
HOURS: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. WHERE: Northwest corner of Main and Iola streets. WHAT: Recycles plastic bottles, aluminum cans and metal, newspaper, copy paper, junk mail, magazines, cardboard, paperboard, phone books and brown, clear and green glass. City officials say the next recycling step is the collection of food-grade oils. A Tulsa company recycles the cooking oil into biodiesel, so the collection of oil makes perfect sense. Keep up the good recycling work.
