Published July 02, 2009 03:39 pm - Volunteerism program As the president and first lady are encouraging, volunteer with a community service project this summer in your area.
First Lady Michelle Obama promoted last week United We Serve, a national campaign to spark volunteerism. She appeared at a San Francisco elementary school that was refurbishing a playground to include a farmer’s market for children to sell produce. President Barack Obama announced the United We Serve program the week before, saying it was an opportunity to help in the nation’s economic recovery. For info
United We Serve is led by the government-run Corporation for National and Community Service. People who want to volunteer can Click Here to look for local opportunities. The Phoenix has been publishing a series of stories on local volunteer opportunities for several months now. We would ask you to watch for those stories and find a community group or organization that you feel comfortable serving with. Muskogee and area communities have many needs, and we should be willing and feel blessed to be able to help others and our community.
