Published September 03, 2008 05:19 pm - Let’s get E911 the funding it needs and get the job done. Let’s get E911 done Come Nov. 4, vote yes for a countywide enhanced 911 service in Muskogee County.
The county has gone much too long without a central call center, which would help improve response times in most emergencies. The best thing the center would do for residents is direct cell phone calls to a local dispatcher. That would not be the case without E911. Other counties nearby have moved much faster than Muskogee County even though they have fewer people and resources. However, the need for E911 is just as great here. Muskogee County is large, with many miles of roads and many residents living in isolated areas. E911, of course, will cost. But the cost is not that much — no more than a 15 percent surcharge on monthly land line bills and 50 cents each month for those with cell phones with local access numbers. Let’s get E911 the funding it needs and get the job done.
