Program inspires students

An Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame project involving elementary school students has the chance to make a lifelong impression.

The project, “Songs With a Purpose,” gave Cherokee Elementary students the chance to record eight songs for a CD.

The CD will be sold later this summer to raise funds to perpetuate the program.

The next installment of the program will get students involved with  writing songs, says OMHOF board member Jermaine Mondaine.

The program gives these students a permanent reminder of their time in the program.

That’s great.

But the program also increases the possibility that some of the students will be inspired to make music for the rest of their lives.

That may be in the form of a career or just a hobby.

Either way, the program enriches the children’s lives.

It allows them to experience the possibilities in life.

It may give them the motivation to expand their horizons and reach well beyond their circumstances.

The program is a great example of what music and OMHOF can do for our community.
