Hunger relief needs coordination

Muskogee Cooperative Ministries’ plan to coordinate hunger relief efforts in Muskogee is worth serious consideration.

MCM’s Food Security Task Force is seeking better ways to help Muskogee’s needy to find adequate food.

There are numerous food pantries and Meals on Wheels programs throughout the area.

Each is to be commended for their dedication and hard work.

Their contributions to Muskogee’s hungry are invaluable.

However, if there is a chance that someone in our community is going hungry, each individual program should sit down and discuss ways to coordinate food distribution.

Each program might have different times when their food pantries are open.

There may be gaps in the times when pantries are open.

If a person has a job and can’t get to an open pantry in time to supplement their family’s diet, that’s heartbreaking.

We encourage all the wonderful people who are running these programs to sit down together.

We encourage them to see if there are ways to coordinate efforts to close the gaps in food distribution.

The common ground for all these groups is feeding the hungry.

Hunger in Muskogee is real.

Exploring options to eliminate gaps is the next compassionate step.
