MLK gala benefits a good cause

Xernona Clayton never has forgotten her roots.

And for that, we should be grateful.

Clayton is the keynote speaker for the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center Gala on Jan. 17 at the Muskogee Civic Center.

Clayton will be bringing many guests — including friends/actors Chris Tucker and Richard Roundtree.

The founder, president and chief executive officer of the Trumpet Awards Foundation is doing her part to help a new MLK Center become a reality.

We all should pitch in what we can.

The gala is an inaugural fundraising event to raise money and support for a new Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

All net proceeds raised from the gala will be dedicated to the new building.

The Martin Luther King Center has served the Muskogee community for nearly 40 years by providing a safe environment for educational and community programs. Plans for the new 18,000 square foot community center were recently approved by the City Council.

The gala gives a unique opportunity to give to this worthy cause.
