It’s probably time we can call Jimmie Johnson an honorary Okie from Muskogee.
The NASCAR driver continues to give to the community his wife, Chandra, grew up in, when the Jimmie Johnson Foundation/Lowe’s Toolbox For Education awarded three Champions Grants totaling $137,000 to Ben Franklin Science Academy, Whittier Elementary School and the Oklahoma School for the Blind earlier this week.
The money is much needed, and the schools are ready to get started on the projects for which the money is set aside.
BFSA’s grant will help fund material to enhance the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) emphasis. Whittier will get extra shelving and books for its library. And OSB will use the money to help convert one of its dormitories into an educational and transitional training facility.
Since its inception in 2009, the Champions Grant Program has given more than $580,000 to Muskogee schools.
That is a significant number. The Johnsons have touched the lives of hundreds of children through this program, bettering our schools in the process.
