Send sheriff back to office

Charles Pearson has served two competent terms as Muskogee County sheriff, and he deserves a third term.

Pearson faces re-election Nov. 4 against Roger Lee, a law officer with about 30 years of experience.

But there’s no need to look beyond Pearson as he has been committed to the job of sheriff and is an energetic person, involved in the community, not just the Sheriff’s Office.

The job is a tough one, especially in operating the jail, which can be a management nightmare. But Pearson has dealt with the challenges about as well as they can be dealt with, and he does it without complaint or whining, which we’ve heard in the past. His office also took over the youth detention facility and improved its operation.

There’s no question that Pearson is the best person for the job.
