Creek casino expansion a boost to city

Muscogee (Creek) Nation officials recently announced plans for a $4 million expansion of its local casino.

This is not only good news for Muskogee’s economy, but for the tourism industry as well.

As tribal gaming has grown and expanded in the state, Muskogee’s casino has been slower to keep up than other casinos in the area. It has gone through a few remodeling projects, but none as big as the upcoming expansion.

Expansion of the 20-year-old facility will create new jobs, which will have a favorable economic impact.

Construction on the six-phase remodel and expansion project is set to begin in earnest Oct. 21. Farrell Kaaihue, the casino’s general manager, said the goal is to have all six phases, which include a new bar and restaurant area along with new bingo, electronic and table games completed by Valentine’s Day.

It’s possible the newly expanded and renovated Cherokee casino in Fort Gibson has taken a bite out of local gambling profits for the Creek nation.

That facility, which is less than one year old, was a major upgrade over the previous gaming facility there.

Muskogee’s Creek Casino has plenty of room to grow, and expanding and renovating that facility will up the ante and give area residents who chose to gamble even more options.
