Now’s the time to *grunt* dance away the pounds

You’re probably reading this while sitting on the couch, button of your pants undone, feet kicked up on the coffee table, family members passed out all around you.
America’s annual celebration of gluttony is finally behind you, and you can start getting ready to dig into Gluttonyfest Part Deux, otherwise known as Christmas dinner, in another month.
Now, don’t get up, because we wouldn’t want you getting out of breath from the effort.
Today is the first day of Thanksgiving fallout, and the first day when grubber’s remorse begins to set in — and everyone starts to wonder what they can do to atone to their arteries for the tubs of fat they just consumed.
Sure, you could go to a gym or jog around the block to turn yourself back into a human instead of a jiggly, festering blob, but who wants to do that kind of boring stuff?
Especially when you can work off the blubber in more exciting ways.
Take the Wild Cowboy in Muskogee, for instance.
If you haven’t scooted your boots in awhile, you may want to take a trip out there tonight. The club has been completely renovated, with a bigger dance floor. When the music starts blaring through the club’s huge sound system, it’s almost impossible to keep yourself from getting out and shaking the thing that your holiday gluttony has made so shaky.
Mulligan’s, on North York Street, also has great DJ music. Jeff Curtsinger, that club’s owner, is working to get a mobile DJ business going, so he’s at the top of his game at Mulligans, cranking out the tunes and firing up the audience.
Dancing the night away is a great way to get rid of the extra pounds — but only if you don’t drink the pounds right back on.
It’s a dilemma you’ll have to discuss with your bartender.
If live music is more your scene, the area has you covered there as well.
Local favorites Bombdiggity are playing at Max’s Garage tonight, bringing their danceable music and grooving stage show to Muskogee’s hottest live music venue. The band never fails to pack out the dance floor, and we’re betting if you ask the band, they’ll even speed their songs up so you can get a little extra cardio in.
If you like your exercise a little slower and funkier, you may have to take a small road trip, but it’ll be worth it if you head out to Roxie’s Roost on Oklahoma 10 outside Tahlequah.
That’s because Muskogee native Travis Fite and his band, Phat Thumb, are playing at Roxie’s. If you’ve never heard Phat Thumb, you should. The band is about as funky as you can get, and their music can act like the electric stimulators you may see advertised on TV that say they can exercise you even when you’re sitting still. That’s because you won’t be able to help tapping your toes and maybe even shaking a little bit as Fite and his band lay down the funk.
