Published February 26, 2009 08:13 pm - New bluegrass venue coming to Stillwater STILLWATER — The organization, Stillwater Bluegrass, will hold its first monthly Bluegrass Music Concert at 6:30 p.m. March 14 at the Stillwater Community Center in the Winfrey D. Houston Theater. Those attending will sit in comfortable theater seating for five hours of entertainment by four bluegrass bands.
Featured bands are “Digger Davis and Tombstone” of Normangee, Texas; “The Hunt Family” of Orlando, Okla.; “Heartland Xpress” of Sand Springs, and “Spitn’ Image” of Clarksville, Ark. Jeff Reeves of Guthrie will be master of ceremonies. Each band will perform two sets. There will be a concession and stretch break at half-time. A special pre-show attraction at 5:15 p.m. in the Community Center for musicians and fans will be a “Meet the Band” reception with Digger Davis and Tombstone’s “Band Workshop and Jam” featuring bass fiddle, five-string banjo, mandolin and flat-top guitar. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments to participate in the workshop and join in on the jam sessions. This bluegrass music event is promoted and coordinated by Jimmy and Merry Bryson of Stillwater. He began playing bluegrass music as a child when he took five-string banjo lessons from Don Thomas in Shawnee, and later played in Thomas’ bluegrass band, The Arbuckles. Jimmy and Merry have been the sound engineers and working staff for The Western Hills Bluegrass Festival near Wagoner for years.
