Top Muskogee teachers named for February
Cynthia Mask, Anita Pearson, Michelle Behrens and Marybeth Flusche were named Muskogee Education Association Teachers of the Month for February. A three-way tie resulted in Mask, Pearson and Behrens being selected from Ben Franklin Science Academy. Flusche is a member of the faculty at the 7th and 8th Grade Center.
Mask teaches kindergarten at BFSA, having been there eight years. She previously taught in Austin, Texas. She has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Northeastern State University.
Mask is the mother of two daughters, Emily and Alyson, and three grandchildren. Mask shares her home with her mother, Marie.
Behrens teaches sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade science at BFSA. She previously taught at West Middle School and the 7th and 8th Grade Center. She has taught 15 years, having previously science at Pleasant Grove Public Schools.
Behrens has a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Oklahoma State University and is a National Board Certified Teacher in EA Science.
She is the daughter of Ed and Dee Behrens and has a brother, Edward Behrens.
Pearson teaches third grade at BFSA. She has taught a total of 13 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from NSU. She was previously selected as Teacher of the Month in 2000-2001 and again in 2002-2003. She worked as a math consultant for Saxon Publishers at NCTM conferences.
Pearson and her husband, Bill, have a daughter, Ashley, and a son, Scott.
Flusche teaches seventh grade science at the 7th and 8th Grade Center. She has taught a total of 11 years, having previously taught at St. Joseph Catholic School. She has a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from OSU, bachelor's in Elementary Education and master's degree in Science Education, both from NSU.
She was selected as Teacher of the Month at the 7th and 8th Grade Center in 1997, 1998 and 2000 and MEA Teacher of the Month in 2002.
Flusche has four children, Emily, Joey, Matthew and Ali, who are all Muskogee High School graduates.
