Muskogee resident Ken Beard beat out more than 500 other performers who auditioned for season five of The News on 6’s summer singing competition “Gimme the Mike!”
Beard has been named one of the 20 finalists who will compete on the new season, which airs on KOTV beginning at 7 p.m. July 7.

The seven-week series will spotlight Oklahoma’s top vocal talent representing a variety of musical styles. Each week a panel of judges takes on the job of identifying the top performer.
Four of the 20 finalists will take the stage each week at Cain’s Ballroom in downtown Tulsa hoping to win a spot in the live “Gimme the Mike!” finale on Aug. 18. The finale will feature the winners of the first five shows and a wild card favorite selected by the viewers, culminating in the selection of one finalist who will win a variety of prizes and be named champion.
The shows will be repeated on KQCW, cable channel 12, broadcast channel 19 at 6:30 p.m. Saturdays.
