Muskogee area piano students participated in the Oklahoma Music Teachers’ Association State Achievement Auditions on May 16 to 17 held at Oklahoma City University.
Those earning a rating of superior outstanding were: Meade McElroy, Eric Breon, Eli Breon, Rebekah Lal, Jacob Burley, Ida Etemad, Michelle Grooms, Jared Grooms, Joanna Harlin, Nathan Harlin, Jeramy Hunter, Caitlin Felts, Rachel Throgmorton, Brenden Martin, Molly Cooper, Sara Wilson, and Andy Edwards.
Receiving a superior rating were: Mallory McElroy, Aaron Abraham, Chelsea Burris, Emily Burris, Elizabeth Clark, Lindsay Gibson, Haley Gibson, Jessie Gibson, Adarra Willis, Wyatt Watson, Kalen Russell, Lydia Wilson, Emma Grooms, Lucas Standridge, Peter Harlin, Jonathan Hunter, Joseph Tiger, Jayden Williams, Savannah Faught, Melanie Grooms and Joannah Boughner.
Chelsea Burris also received the “Repertoire Award” for playing pieces from the Baroque, classical, romantic, and 20th Century periods over a period of four years. Receiving awards for Merit Division (playing a different piece at state and taking a theory test) were Joanna Harlin, Nathan Harlin, Lydia Wilson, Peter Harlin, Jonathan Hunter, and Savannah Faught. Peter Harlin and Andy Edwards also received the Clarence Burg Award for participating in the state auditions for four years of high school. Savannah Faught also was the winner in the ninth to 10th grades in the senior auditions for harp and will play on a recital at the state conference which will be held next week at Oklahoma City University.
Teachers participating were Helen James, Nedda Horvath, Grace Jones, and Nancy Shelton of Muskogee and Carolyn Stauffer of Eufaula.
