Music students earn awards
Area students participated in the State Achievement Audition, sponsored by Oklahoma Music Teachers Association, on May 15 and 16 held at Oklahoma City University.
Students earning a superior outstanding rating included Elizabeth Clark, Eric Breon, Chelsea Burris, Mackenzie Dalton, Zechariah Wadsworth, Rebekah Harlin, Joanna Harlin, Jared Grooms, Melanie Grooms, Brenden Martin, Jonathan Hunter, and Jeramy Hunter.
Those receiving a superior rating were: Eli Breon, Emily Burris, Bella Bradley, Wyatt Watson, Jacob Burley, Lindsay Gibson, Haley Gibson, Jessie Gibson, Aaron Abraham, Nathaniel Wadsworth, Alexandria Wadsworth, Kalen Russell, Emma Grooms, Savannah Faught, Nathan Harlin, Michelle Grooms, Meade McElroy, Mallory McElroy, Chris Gilmartin, Caitlin Felts, Sara Wilson, Rachel Throgmorton, Austin Prentice, Lucas Standridge, Laura Jardine and Skylar Simmons.
Mallory McElroy also earned a superior rating on a violin solo. Savannah Faught earned a superior rating on a harp solo.
Seniors who received the Clarence Burg Award for participating in the state auditions for four years were: Mallory McElroy, Lydia Wilson, Melanie Grooms, Chelsea Burris and Lindsay Gibson.
Students earning the Repertoire Award for playing pieces from the four different periods of music were Mallory McElroy, Savannah Faught, Lydia Wilson, Melanie Grooms and Eric Breon.
Receiving the Merit Division Award for playing a different piece at state included Emma Grooms, Rebekah Harlin, Joanna Harlin, Lydia Wilson, Savannah Faught, Nathan Harlin, Chris Gilmartin, and Caitlin Felts.
Teachers participating in the audition were Grace Jones, Nedda Horvath, and Nancy Shelton of Muskogee and Carolyn Stauffer of Eufaula.
