Roll up your T-shirt sleeves and jeans, grab your comb and slick back your hair with “Grease.”
Muskogee Parks and Recreation is hosting the first Movie Night in the Park at dusk Thursday at Honor Heights with a showing of “Grease” starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John on a large screen.
Susie Lawrence, board member of the Muskogee Area Arts Council, who is also sponsoring the event, said she is super excited.
“I can’t wait,” Lawrence said. “There is a costume contest, and everybody will be singing and dancing to the songs.”
Lawrence is wearing her jeans rolled up, a white T-shirt with a pair of white Keds for the movie.
Adele McClure, who is involved with Muskogee Little Theatre, said she and her 5-year-old daughter, Rosie, will be there.
“It’s going to be a riot,” she said. “Everybody I have talked to is feeling the same way.”
McClure said she and Rosie have been practicing their moves in preparation for the show.
“We watch ‘Grease’ at the house at a minimum of two times a night,” she said. “Rosie does a really good Travolta pelvic thrust, and it is hilarious. Plus, we have been practicing the hand jive.”
McClure said the event will include some pre-movie activities, and the movie will be closed caption so everybody can sing along.
“This is very reminiscent of a drive-in movie,” she said. “This is a great event and it is something to do in the summer.”
