Churchmen bring it home

The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma will be in concert in the new worship center at Crescent Valley Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Thursday. There is no admission fee.

“We’re thrilled to have these guys coming to our area,” said Brad Henderson, minister of music for Crescent Valley. “The sound of men singing and, by the way, singing well is very moving.”

Henderson often performs with the group playing various instruments and singing tenor.

“I got to go with the group when they went to Australia,” Henerson said. “It was amazing to visit with and encourage other believers and then to get to play in the Sydney Opera House. Wow! That’s a chance of a lifetime.”

Dr. Bill Green directs the Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, organized in 1960 by the Church Music Department of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.

This choral group represents one of the very first male choral organizations in the Southern Baptist Convention, according to a media release.

“They’ll sing almost every style you can imagine — spirituals, classical, a little Gaither Vocal Band and some other pop style music. There really is something for everyone.”

The Churchmen are composed of ministers of music from Southern Baptist churches across the state. The group has toured in Russia, China, Australia and will be presenting concerts in Armenia and Israel in April of 2009.

Those attending are encouraged to arrive early because of limited seating. Seating is not reserved.

Crescent Valley Baptist Church is located on U.S. 62, nine miles east of Fort Gibson and nine miles west of Tahlequah.

Information: Brad Henderson, 456-6590, or brad@crescentvalley.org.
