Author to speak at Wagoner book club



Wagoner Books At Noon will meet on Tuesday in the meeting room of the Wagoner City Public Library, 302 N. Main St., in Wagoner.

Lunch will be provided by Study Club Unlimited. Lunch cost is $3. Speaker will be Benjamin J. Cox. Cox, writing under the pen names, Ben J. Cox and Ben James, is an author, novelist, poet, speaker, writer and humorist. He has written two books, “Insider Dreams,” a 911 novel, and a biography, “To Mama: The Long Road Home.” He retired in 2006 and ran the 15k Tulsa Run that same year.

He is working on a novel set in Mayes County that features the Tulsa Run. He also is working on two additional books: a book of poetry (no title at the present); also, “An Accidental Collection of Happenings and Sayings.”

Cox was born on a dirt street in a Waldron, Ark., in 1943. He spent part of his childhood in an orphan’s home. He lives with his wife, Betty, in Pryor. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam years.

He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a degree in electrical engineering.

He is married with three children and five grandchildren.

He is the president of Mayes County Writers Club, the treasurer of Pryor Creek Investment Club and past president of Will Rogers Toastmasters in Tulsa. He likes to ride his bicycle, enjoys big band dancing, playing poker, speaking before groups, and writes every day. He and his wife take two vacations each year, recently to south Florida and the eastern provinces of Canada.
