Arts to fill Eufaula this weekend



Eufaula Area Arts Council will host an art festival this weekend called Eufaula Art Walk today and Saturday. The theme is “Indian Summer”. Activities will start on Friday with a “free” street dance and continue Saturday with art activities. The Indian Summer Street Dance will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until midnight. Playing Friday is the Selby Minner Band and Blues on the Move.

Saturday will feature 30 artists or more playing, story telling, showing and demonstrating. The Bank of Eufaula will highlight four Native American artists.

Selmon Road will be blocked off and John Baker from Enterprise will be showing his hand carved Rock Art.

Darlene Campbell, Megan Damewood, Jackie Goss, Sharon Lackey, Lynn Melton, Beth Parker, CC Puckett, and Jon Tiger will show paintings, drawings and watercolors.

Crawford Dozier will show poetic framed art. Zack Duffy and Marc Etier will show pottery. Duffy is from McAlester and Etier is from Ada. Etier wood to fire his ceramics. Mixed media specialists are Lawanna Emerson, Deloras Frederick and Price Jones. Emerson is also an art therapist.

Will Harjo will have his hand-made flutes and other Native American crafts..

Jewelers showing are Holly Johnson, Victoria Mason, Phyllis and Jeremy Nelms, Rita Pyle and Peggy Main. Casey Willson is a cane carver and jewelry maker. Mary Kaulay will exhibit Creek textiles.

Get your caricature drawn by Lynn Melton from Nobel. Pamela Husky will be demonstrating the art of felt making. Glenna McBride, printmaker, Pat Allen, ceramicist, Annalis Doyle, gourd artist will be showing at the Main Street Studio at 105 South Main. The demonstrations start at 9:30 a.m.

Sailing Horse Winery will set up for free samples Friday and Saturday. Sailing Horse is from Eufaula. Black Sheep Winery from Poteau will set up on Saturday.

Musicians performing Saturday will be Ben Yahola from Muskogee. He is a Creek folk guitarist amplified by the sun.

Ted Goforth, guitarist and Archie Mlynek, fiddler, will be strumming and picking. Will Harjo will be playing his flute. Clarance Benes will be story telling and fibbing as Rooster Cogburn. Benes will be making a big fuss throughout the downtown area. The performers start at 10:30.

Eufaula Community Theater students will be dressed as film characters. You can get your picture taken with a character.

Quinton Public School High School Art Class will have an exhibit of their hand made bowls. If you purchase one of their bowls you can have free cornbread and beans. This exhibit will take place at the Main Street Studio at 105 South Main.
