Put on your dark sunglasses and get ready for the blues.
Wanda Watson is performing at 7 p.m. today at Muskogee Civic Center in one of the city’s efforts to draw tourism with “The Ideal Conference Destination: Muskogee.”
Cassandra Gaines, manager for Muskogee Civic Center, said they have a “Pick Your Passion” conference themes.
These packages offer interested organizations to choose their package for their conference.
“We have five packages they can choose from,” she said. “Blues and Catfish; Casino Night; Bluegrass on the Square; Broadway Night and Margaritaville Party.”
The National Preservation Society from Tulsa chose Blues and Catfish.
“It’s a Blues Brothers theme,” Gaines said. “And there will be cognac and tons of catfish and blues.”
Gaines said this helps people look at Muskogee for conference meetings.
“It will bring a lot to the city,” she said. “We are expecting more than 100 people from Tulsa Friday. The event is open to the public at a ticket price of $35.”
The event’s performer Wanda Watson was voted “Best Vocalist” by the Blues Society of Tulsa December 2004 and 2006. In September 2005, Watson was voted “Best Blues Act” by Tulsa World’s SPOT Awards
