Awards given today for Masters Art Show

The 2008 Masters Art Show opens at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum at 6:30 p.m. today with an awards ceremony. The awards will follow a reception at the museum, which is free.

The title of “Master Artist” remains the highest honor the Five Civilized Tribes Museum can give an artist. A total of 35 artists have been inducted into this prestigious program.

Artists competing in this year’s show are: Troy Anderson, Siloam Springs; Jimmie Carol Fife-Stewart, Washington; Gary France, Edmond; Joan Hill, Muskogee; Norma Howard, Stigler; Murv Jacob, Tahlequah; Gwen Coleman Lester, Claremore; Skip Rowell, Haywood; Bert Seabourn, Warr Acres; Jason Stone, Locust Grove; Virginia Stroud, Tahlequah and Dorothy Sullivan, Norman.

The show will feature paintings, bronze and wood sculptures.

“Opening night is a great opportunity to visit with the contemporary artists in the show; it is also an excellent time to buy a piece of quality artwork. Members of the museum are welcome and the public is invited to attend,” said Mary Robinson, museum executive director.
