Needing help getting in the Christmas spirit this year?
If so, find your way to First Assembly of God this weekend.
Its presentation of “The Splendor of Christmas” is sure to put you in the holiday mood.
Robin Henderson said they do the extravaganza every year. It helps get you into the Christmas spirit, she said.
“Everybody gets involved,” she said. “The whole church gets involved. We consider this a way to give back to the community at Christmas.”
Debra Rose, music director for the Christmas Extravaganza, said she couldn’t do it without a great team of people.
“We have been at the church for 19 years and I have done something every year,” she said. “I think the true meaning of Christmas is giving, and I think we have lost that. We want them to know the real truth about Christmas,” Rose said. “Jesus was born to become the savior to all mankind.”
Donnie Madewell of Muskogee is involved in the show.
“I play the trumpet in the performance,” he said. “I started playing in the sixth grade. I have played at the church forever. Of course what we are doing with this deal is incredible. We just love to put this on. It’s our gift to the city and we have had a lot of people in the community band come and help us.
Madewell said it’s the coolest show in town.
“This is so cool with all the strings and everything,” he said. “You don’t have to go to Tulsa; you can stay in Muskogee. This is the neatest one ever, not one CD will be playing. It’s all live. That’s why it’s so cool, and very professional.”
