War veteran to celebrate birthday

World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient Howard Edwards will celebrate his 90th birthday on Dec. 31. There will be a reception for him, hosted by his family, at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dogwood Creek, 3230 E. Shawnee Bypass.

Edwards, a native of Wagoner, was wounded on his 21st birthday on a mountain top in Italy. His brother Willard carried him down the mountain to the medics who then evacuated him to a floating hospital where he spent 11 months in recovery.

The family hopes that friends and family of Edwards will join them in celebration of his special day.
