Worship event set for Sunday

— Muskogee’s faithful are being called to The Heights worship event Sunday.

Kyle Beard, a 2012 Muskogee High School graduate, said he and some friends are putting together the event, designed to cross denominational lines.

“We decided we wanted to do something that would unite the body of Christ,” Beard said.

“We’re calling churches, inviting pastors, youth pastors, inviting everyone we could so it can be a community event.”

Beard, majoring in justice at Oklahoma City University, said the event will feature contemporary Christian music, speakers, praise and prayer.

This week’s event is patterned after a summer 2013 gathering at Honor Heights Park, hence the event’s name, he said.

“We want to take people to reach new heights,” Beard said.

He said that at the summer event, “we started a band, played a couple of songs, prayed for and with each other.”

Jerrod Murr, youth pastor at First Assembly of God, spoke at that event, Beard said.

Beard said he grew up attending St. Paul United Methodist Church, and he knows members from that youth group will come.

He also expects people from First Assembly and Ekklesia, a Muskogee church Beard now attends.

Beard said Brett Baggett of Ekklesia will speak Sunday. Beard also is getting a band together to play contemporary Christian music.

“But we’ll also have arrangements of a couple of traditional hymns,” Beard said, listing “In Christ Alone” and “Revive Us Again” as two of the hymns.

Alison Lambert, a 2009 MHS graduate, grew up attending St. Paul with Beard. She said she will help pray with people at the Sunday event.

“It’s exciting to just worship and think the city is coming together for Jesus,” she said.
