The Adult Literacy Department at Muskogee Public Library offers the following individual and group classes for adults ages 18 and older.
The classes for 2014 are:
• GED Test Preparation — 9 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays.
• ESL class — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays.
• U.S Citizenship Test Preparation — 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays.
• Adult Basic Education (language arts, math, general test preparation, etc.) — classes are taught individually. There are no group classes in this area.
GED, ESL, and U.S. Citizenship classes are both group and individual depending on the needs of the adult student.
We also need adults who are 21 and older as tutors. You do not have to have a teaching certification nor experience as a teacher. We provide training and guidance for you as you begin tutoring and throughout the time you continue to tutor. Tutors must have a high school diploma or GED, speak and write English proficiently, and have a heart to help other adults work towards goals that will improve their lives
If you are interested in enrolling in a class or would like to be a tutor, call Penny Chastain, the adult literacy coordinator for the Muskogee Public Library, at (918) 682-6657, ext. 246.
