If you need to dance off a few of those pounds you just put on during your Thanksgiving feast, Service League of Muskogee Inc. has just the thing — Turkey Stomp.
The annual event offers great music by the Tulsa band, M.I.C., formerly The Jetset Kings, hors d’ourves, beer and a cash bar at 7 p.m. today at Muskogee Country Club. The country club chefs are preparing the food.
Advance tickets are $20 at Firstar Bank, Citizens Security Bank, Locke Law Office or from any Service League member; or $25 at the door.
Michelle Sterling, Service League president, said the band has been performing at the event for the past two years.
“They are fun to dance to, a party band,” Sterling said. “We really like them. That’s why they come back.”
Sterling wants people to know that while they are having a good time, they are helping women and children. All proceeds from the Turkey Stomp go to local non-profit organizations. Last year, $8,800 was donated to WISH House, Hope Kids, Monarch, Kelly B. Todd Cerebral Palsy and Neuro-Muscular Center, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Kids Space. The list of groups benefiting this year will depend on the profit.
James Hunt, lead guitarist and vocalist for M.I.C., said the band members have children and are glad to help support the cause. The band includes Myron Oliver, keyboard, saxophone and vocals; Booker Gillespie, lead vocals; Todd Shaver, bass and vocals; and Ely Gattenby, drummer and vocals. The band changed it’s name about a month ago after losing one band member due to professional differences.
Hunt said the band members are like him, professionals playing since they were teens.
“We know how to put on a good show,” he said.
They play Top 40, pop, rock, hip-hop and rhythm and blues — anything from 1960s to today’s music, he said.
“It’s a good time to come out and have a fun night,” Sterling said.
