Club news runs on Sundays. The deadline for club news is noon Wednesday.

New Century Club

The New Century Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the home of Lisa Harbison. Ann Brizendine will review “War and the Soul: Healing Our Nation’s Veteras From Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” by Edward Tick.

Hostesses will be Harbison and Mary Ann Couch.


The Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award is a cash grant offered to assist a female head of household who is starting or continuing her education to improve her economic status by preparing her to enter or re-enter the workplace. The Women’s Opportunity Award can be used for books, child care, transportation or any other expense that will help a woman reach her educational goal. Soroptimist International of Muskogee will be presenting a $1,000 cash award.

The Women’s Opportunity Award is part of the Soroptimist mission to make a difference for women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

Applications for the 2014 Women’s Opportunity Award are now available and can be obtained from Carole Fisher, (918) 683-2845, or Vicky Spradling, (918) 686-7000,

The application deadline is Jan. 15.

Green Country Duplicate Bridge

Green Country Duplicate Bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. If you are interested in playing or learning to play duplicate bridge, call Ann Kent at (918) 682-3098, Mary Smith at (918) 682-2605, or Sandy Cole at (918) 684-9002.

Recent winners:

• Dec. 13 — Jo Ann Poirier and Lisa Poirier, first; and Ann Kent and Ruth Sharpe tied with Norma Kolmer and Fran Martin for second.

• Dec. 16 —Joan Chapman and Carol Ketchum, first; and Ann Kent and Jane Lopes tied with Mary Smith and Bill Porte for second.

• Dec. 20 — Jo Ann Poirier and Lisa Poirier, first; and Fran Martin and Ruth Sharpe tied with Betty Jordan and Jane Lopes for second.

• Annual Christmas party and Club Championship game — Ruth Sharpe and Betty Jordan, first; Ann Kent and Fran Martin, second; Joan Chapman and Carol Ketchum, third; Linda Stearns and Norma Kolmer, fourth; and Mary Smith and Ralph Parker, fifth. Sandra Cole and Santa McWilliams were first in B, Bill Porter and Renee Tyrrell were second in B, and Nettie Kaad and Grace Sweeney were first in C.

The next game will be on Jan. 6.


World Class Speakers celebrated the holidays with a Christmas party at the last meeting.

Visitors included Tom Martindale, Ken Lee and Marilyn Hinshaw. Members and visitors alike spoke for three minutes about their most memorable Christmas. The rest of the evening was spent playing Christmas games and enjoying food.

Toastmasters meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at Three Rivers Museum, 220 Elgin.
