MLT dance party benefit May 29, 30

The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Muskogee Little Theatre are collaborating on a benefit show May 29 and 30 that features the music and cast from MLT’s 2013 production of “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.”  Proceeds from the two-night event will be benefit both organizations. The show, billed as a “Summer Dance Party”, will start at 7 p.m. with 1950s music and a “sock hop” with the live performance beginning at 8 p.m.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available at The Frisco Depot, 401 S. Third St.

In April 2013, Muskogee Little Theatre’s production of “Buddy” played to eight sold out crowds, becoming one of the most successful shows in MLT history. The cast of local actors and musicians are reuniting to present the music of the show, including the historic “Winter Dance Party” sequence that occurred in Clear Lake, Iowa on Feb. 2, 1959, at The Surf Ballroom. The theatrical portion of “Buddy” is not being presented, but additional songs from the 1950s by Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Elvis are being added to the show.

Muskogee Little Theatre is wrapping up a capital campaign that will fund, along with a grant from The City of Muskogee Foundation, a new performing arts center across the street from the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. This event is the first of many collaborations that are planned between the two organizations once the new facility is completed.

The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. “Live at The Frisco Depot” is presented every Thursday featuring local, regional, and national music acts.
