Library hosts lunch, book review this week

The Friends of the Library will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Muskogee Public Library for Books Sandwiched In for a book review and lunch. Jeremy Jones, circulation assistant, will review the book “True Grit,” a novel by Charles Portis.

Jones is a native of Muskogee who graduated from Muskogee High School in 2000. He continued his education at Northeastern State University, graduating in 2004 with a degree in Management Information Systems. He and his wife, Jennifer, attend Wesley United Methodist Church. His favorite hobbies are reading and music. He has been employed by the Muskogee Public Library since 2006.

The book he is reviewing was first published in The Saturday Evening Post.

It is the story of a young woman, with the help of an aging marshal, seeking revenge for the murder of her father by an outlaw. The time and place is the 1800s in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Indian Territory.

It was made into a movie starring John Wayne who won an Academy Award for his performance. It is considered by some critics to be one of the great American novels.

A sandwich lunch will be served for $3 with drinks and dessert. Guests are always welcome.
