Academic All-Staters

Four area students were among 100 outstanding seniors from Oklahoma public schools who were honored as Academic All-Staters at the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Academic Awards Banquet, held recently in Norman. The Academic Awards Banquet is presented annually by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.

• Sheldon Smith, Fort Gibson High School — Smith is founding member of Fort Gibson’s FIRST Robotics team and serves as president of National Honor Society and secretary of senior class. A varsity football player, he was named Class 4A All-Star Offensive Lineman and 2013 Most Valuable Player. He is the recipient of National Honor Society’s Leadership Award and two-time recipient of the Hostile Gato Robotics Award for Outstanding Team Member. He volunteers for Camp Barnabas, which serves children with life-threatening illnesses and disabilities. He enjoys duck hunting and building things. Smith plans to major in engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Scholarship sponsor: Joshi Technologies International, Inc.

• Jacob Campbell, Checotah High School — Co-captain of the varsity football team, Campbell is an Academic Letter jacket recipient and was named the district’s Special Teams MVP. He is vice president of Student Council and a member of the National Honor Society. Campbell is active in the Checotah Church of Christ youth group and volunteers at Marshall Elementary School. He is also a dirt track stock car driver, and as sophomore, he was in the NASCAR All-American Whelen Series Dirt Division IV Top 100 in North America. Campbell plans to major in civil engineering at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. Scholarship sponsor: Steve and Pam Holton.

• Ali Nolan, Keys High School — Nolan, a class valedictorian, is the recipient of a Baccalaureate Scholarship to Northeastern State University. She is president of the senior class, Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, National Honor Society and Students Working Against Tobacco. She won the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, recognizing outstanding academic performance by a student athlete. She is a four-year member of the varsity soccer, golf, basketball and fast-pitch softball teams, the latter two of which she served as captain. She is also president of the youth leadership board at Cornerstone Fellowship. She tutors during encore time, before and after school. Nolan plans to attend Northeastern State University and major in biology. Scholarship sponsor: Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, Linda Lambert, Trustee.

• Anne Linebarger, Tahlequah High School — Linebarger is a two-time semifinalist at the National Trumpet Competition, recipient of the International Guild’s Young Artist Award and a member of the 2013 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society and academic team, she is trumpet section leader in band, lead trumpet in the jazz band and co-principal trumpet for the Tulsa Youth Symphony. Other interests include playing varsity tennis and participating in theater and musical theater. Linebarger also attends Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics at the Tahlequah/Stilwell Regional Center and is concurrently enrolled at Northeastern State University. She plans to attend Florida State University, majoring in trumpet performance and mathematics. Scholarship sponsor: Tahlequah Public Schools Foundation.
