Mullins to speak at library about her novel

“Books Sandwiched In” — a book review and lunch — will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Muskogee Public Library.

Muskogee historian and columnist Jonita Mullins will review her novel “Journey to an Untamed Land.”

Mullins has done extensive research on area history. She received her degree in English from Oklahoma State University with the dream of one day writing a novel, according to a media release.

Her novel tells the story of the first mission and school established in Oklahoma in 1821.

The book follows the journey of Clarissa Johnson, who leaves her New England home to teach Osage girls at the mission. Caught in a feud between the Osages and Cherokees, the Union Mission works to bring education and the gospel to the untamed prairie.

This is Mullins’ third book. It will be available for purchase after the luncheon. Mullins will autograph her book at the event.

A sandwich lunch will be served for $3 with drinks and dessert. Guests are welcome.
