What do you think of when you think of the Muskogee Public Library? Or when you think of any library? Do you picture a quiet place with people tiptoeing around and speaking in whispers? Do you see librarians going "Sshhhh"?
If you do, then it has been a long time since you’ve been to the Muskogee Public Library. Yes, there are still books for all ages and interests that can be found here. But did you know that you can also find movies and popular programs from PBS, A&E and several television series available on DVD or videotape to checkout for free?
There are also audio books on CD and on Playaway, which doesn’t need a CD or cassette player to listen to the book, it only needs earbuds. Also available are e-books and audio books that can be downloaded to your computer or mobile devices. Go to the Muskogee Public Library’s website at www.eok.lib.ok and you will find information and a link to access the online audio and e-books.
When you are on the Muskogee Public Library website click on the research tab near the top and you will find the various databases available for free to the Library’s patrons. There are descriptions of the various items available. They include general and professional magazine of all types for young kids through college through the professional.
There are also military and government magazines and documents as well as online reference books, newspapers and much more.
Are you planning to visit another country on a business trip or on a vacation? Try the Mango database and learn to speak the language. It is easy to use and you can proceed at your own pace.
Did you know that Muskogee Public Library has a Facebook and Twitter page? You can get connected from the Library’s website and stay up on all the events and programs happening at the Library. This includes what is happening with the various Book Clubs, the Teen Programs, Children’s Programs, and the Genealogy Department.
Perhaps all of this technology has you confused? Did a friend or relative just buy you a Kindle or Nook or an iPad? Or did you just get a computer or laptop and you don’t know how to use it?
Call or come by the library and ask for Book-a-Librarian. We can have a training session for one or two people on how to use your various devices or on how to use the Library’s various services. Whether you want to know how to surf the Internet, use Microsoft Word or Excel, how to download an e-book to your computer or other device, or to learn how to use your new computer, the Muskogee Public Library can help answer your questions.
Does your family or friends like to play games? The Muskogee Public Library has a Wii available to use at any time. It also has chess, checkers, monopoly, jigsaw puzzles and other games available to be used here at the library.
These are only a few of the many services and opportunities you will find available to you at the Muskogee Public Library or on its webpage at www.eok.lib.ok.us.
